THE EU PACKAGING DIRECTIVE IS INCORPORATED INTO FINNISH LEGISLATION

The recovery of packaging has to be carried out in compliance with the targets that the EU has confirmed with Finland.

The packaging directive has been enforced in Finland through the Waste Act 1072/1993, the Council of State decision on packaging and packaging waste 962/1997 and the Council of State decrees 987/2004 and 817/2005.

Chapter 3 a concerning producer responsibility was added to the Waste Act under amendment 452/2004 and has also formed the basis of producer responsibility for packaging since 1.9.2004. The more precise obligations concerning reuse and recovery are based on the aforementioned Council of State decision 962/1997 and degree 817/2005.
