WHAT BENEFIT DOES A FIRM GET FROM USING THE PYR TRADEMARK?
The PYR trademark shows that a firm is registered with PYR and that it attends to the recovery of its packaging and takes care of the environment. By printing the PYR trademark on its packaging, for instance, a firm may derive added value for itself and its products. PYR promotes awareness of the trademark and of the recovery scheme operating in Finland through campaigns, for example. When recognition of the message conveyed by the trademark becomes more prevalent, many buyers of a product with an interest in environmental matters are likely to start looking for the trademark on the side of packaging. PYR also believes that consumers’ attitudes towards packaging and packers will become more positive when the trademark becomes more common.

WHY IS THE GRŰNE PUNKT (GREEN DOT) SIGN NOT USED IN FINLAND?
The Green Dot sign initially was the trademark of Duales System Deutschland GmbH (DSD) of Germany. The right to use the trademark was obtained by paying packaging recovery fees to DSD. Later the Green Dot sign has spread quite widely as a sign used throughout Europe showing that the user belongs to the country’s recovery scheme. PYR cooperates with the so-called Pro Europe Alliance to develop laws related to packaging among other things, but does not pay to use the Green Dot, as the PYR trademark replaces the said sign.

WHY ARE THE PACKAGING STATISTICS ON PYR’ WEBSITE SO OLD?
The latest official packaging statistics are annually published on PYR’s website at the beginning of July. The late publication date of the statistics is not due to PYR. The reason for this is the practice established in Europe whereby the official statistics for each year are sent to Brussels eighteen months after the end of the year.

IS THE PACKER OBLIGED BY LAW TO TAKE BACK USED PACKAGING?
No. Firms may for reasons of image or otherwise voluntarily participate in the establishment of recovery centres, but this is not compulsory.

WHERE CAN ONE FIND INFORMATION ABOUT THE LAWS AND RECYCLING SCHEMES OF DIFFERENT EU STATES?

WHY IS THE PYR CERTIFICATE POSTED IN JUST ONE LANGUAGE?
There is one language code in our register for mass-mailing, such as for posting certificates. The certificate is automatically posted in the language entered in the register as the postal language. The certificate can be ordered free of charge from our customer service in Finnish, Swedish and/or English as well.

CAN THE PYR CERTIFICATE BE OBTAINED IN ELECTRONIC FORMAT, FOR EXAMPLE, VIA THE INTERNET?
The certificate sent by post is printed or copied on special paper. The appearance of the certificate would not be the same if it were printed from the internet. We also want to prevent misuse of the certificate by only giving it to a registered firm. However, a firm may, if it wishes, scan the posted certificate in electronic format.
